Dollar Draft Wednesday
Wednesday is changing.
The date is Tuesday, June 15th, 1993. The scene is Manhattan, one of the most competitive markets for bars at the time. The bar is Turtle Bay. Milford Heiner sits in the back office stressing over what he can do to make his bar stand out from the 47 other bars that are on the same city block as him. He spends his night alone with only a bottle of Bushmill's whiskey his thinking cap. He racked his brain for hours, jotting down ideas like "Vegas Wednesday," "Wicked Wednesday," "Wasted Wednesday," carefully mapping out each night and then tossing them away in disgust. Concept after concept gets discarded, each outline becoming tainted with the pessimism of previous outcomes. Soon the alcohol brings Milford's head to his desk where it would rest until morning.
The next day Milford woke up in a pool of drool that smelt like stale whiskey and failure. His deadline was up. He was given until this particular Wednesday to create a single night to remember. At exactly 11:00am Milford gave up. Faced with losing his house, his family, and his collection of antique lunch boxes Milford did the only thing he knew how to do. He threw a party.
He contacted his staff threw carrier pigeon, (that was how they did things before text messaging,) and gave them all the same message: "Give me a dollar and I will give you a beer. If your friends come they can give me a dollar and I will give them a beer. If a stranger walks in off the street and gives me a dollar I will give them a beer. The only thing I ever knew was fun so let's do that and that alone for my last night."
Word spread.
Milford played his favorite cassette tapes that night, not the typical filth that the youth was listening to (aside from that "Rump Shaker" song that he was fond of,) but the songs that made him happy. He brought the people he loved in and showed them the greatest party they had ever seen.
The night was exactly what Milford wanted out of a night. No Gimmicks. No Costumes. Nothing Fancy. Just a Party.
The owners stopped by in the wee hours of Thursday to find Milford nowhere close to sober and still in the DJ booth playing "Dancing with myself" by Billy Idol. Milford stopped the music and broke down into tears, the only way to express the regret of his failure. The owner's response was simple..."Hey asshole, turn the music back on!"
Milford was a hero. The night became legendary.
Since that fateful night in June the 52nd block of 2nd Avenue has never been the same. The concept is simple: Party the way you want to.
Calico Jack's is bringing that concept to Pittsburgh. If you're tired of going to every different club for the same experience than we are here to cater to you. If you're tired of hearing the same set of songs for 4 hours then we are here to cater to you. If you're tired of waiting in line for a drink from a bartender that doesn't give a shit about how thirsty you are we are here to cater to you. If you are tired, Calico Jack's Cantina is your wake up call.
Every Wednesday we are offering you an experience. From open to close you will have the luxury of $1 domestic drafts, $1 hamburger sliders, and $.50 wings with no cover charge and the cheapest parking in the city. You will also have the luxury of the witnessing a party unlike one you have ever seen before.
Come one, come all. Bring your drinking hats and possibly a good set of goggles. It will be messy.
Celebrity Thursday Presents Black vs. Gold
Celebrity Thursday Presents Black vs Gold Guest Bartending Team Tournament
Pittsburgh's Premier Guest Bartending Event
Celebrity Thursday is a bracket style tournament where teams of 3 guest bartenders compete against each other to win a trip to Cancun. The teams were told to be as insane as possible so expect some crazy things to go down. Scoring for the tournament is based on many things including the amount of people they bring with them and their performance in ridiculous mini games. The crowd plays a huge role in the judging so come down and join the festivities!
The world famous Hot Tamales are here to entertain and of course DJ Firm will be spinning anything you want to hear (if you say chicken dance I will kick you,) as well as emceeing the match.
Drink specials have also changed. From 9-11 we are featuring Captain Morgan and Parrot Bay products for 3 dollars as well as Miller Lite Drafts for 2 dollars.
